Ayla's Trek for Educating Girls
Story
60 million girls around the world are not educated.
In October this year I will be trekking the Great Wall of China on a Huma Charity Challenge with the goal to raise $1000 for One Girl.
After helping educate children in Ghana in 2010 and 2012 through my own fundraising initiative Jogging4Ghana in which I raised $10,000 for my own education programs - and now I want to do more.
One Girl aim is to education 1 million girls. In many countries women are all too often not given an education and are pulled out of school at a very young age.
One Girl are working with well established partners in Sierra Leone and Uganda to fund grassroots programs that help educate girls. Find out more about their programs here.
Please make a donation so together we can help educate more girls.
My Jogging4Ghana Fundraising Story
In 2010 I lived in a rural village in the Akuapem Hills of Ghana for 3 months just outside the capital Accra. I was teaching in a small primary school with around 35 children that all came from very poor village families. Their passion and enthusiasm to learn was incredibly moving which made me want to do more.
When I got home I started my own fundraising campaign called Jogging4Ghana and in just over 2 years I raised over $10,000 to help the children from the Akuapem Hills. These funds have helped build a classroom, furniture, a toilet and have helped send 6 children to primary school and 3 children to senior high school.
I am still helping these kids today - but now I want to do more as I strongly believe an education is a huge part of eradicating poverty.
Activity
One Girl Australia
One Girl is a charity empowering girls through education.
We believe that every girl on the planet has the right to an education. No matter where she is born, how much her family earns, what religion she adheres to, or what her culture says - every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and be the best she can be. And when you educate a girl, she can change her world.
We're working in Sierra Leone and Uganda to give girls and women access to education, through four girl-focused education projects. We're on a mission to educate 1 million girls across Africa, and we hope you’ll join us. Find out more about our work at: www.onegirl.org.au
